Bio Pen Q2 Q&A

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment used to target a variety of skin conditions on the face and body. Needles are used to penetrate the skin at a variety of depths to create a wound healing response. This in turn encourages the skin to produce new collagen and elastin to give patients younger-looking skin.

What is Electroporation technology?

Electroporation is a technique in which an electrical field is applied to the skin’s cells in order to increase the permeability of the membranes, allowing topical products to be introduced into the cell more efficiently. Its application to the skin has been shown to significantly increase transdermal product delivery. Electroporation can be used alone or in combination with skin microneedling which enhances the range of products that can be delivered trans-dermally.

How does Bio Pen Q2 work?

Our Bio Pen Q2 combines electroporation and microneedling technology to give clients maximum skin rejuvenating results, through the stimulation of the skin’s own wound healing process and the increased absorption of active ingredients.

Does Microneedling hurt?

During a microneedling treatment, there is generally minimal discomfort to the client. The Bio Pen Q2 uses ultrafine needles, which provide more comfort than other devices. You should feel a warming sensation following treatment which will then subside over the course of a few hours. Topical anesthetics can be used for clients with sensitive skin, should they wish to apply prior to the treatment.

How long does it take to see results from microneedling?

Some clients feel a difference in the elasticity of their skin in as little as 24 hours. However, the long-lasting results will be seen between 4-6 weeks post-treatment as this is the time frame in which it takes the body to produce new healthy collagen and elastin.

What will my skin look like after the treatment?

Immediately after treatment the skin can appear pink, slightly swollen and feel warm. The micro-wounds caused from microneedling usually take up to 24hours to heal. Post-treatment side effects should subside over the 2-4 days.

How many Bio Pen Q2 treatments will my clients need?

Treatment intervals and the total number of sessions vary for each client depending on their individual skin concerns. Generally, we would recommend a minimum course of 3 sessions following a review to determine if any further sessions are required.

How long should be left between treatments?

MTPskintech suggest generally leaving 4 weeks between treatments using a longer depth needle (1.5mm), whereas treatments provided with a shallow needle can be repeated after 2 weeks, as long as the skin has healed.

What can be treated with the Bio Pen Q2?

• Fine lines and wrinkles

• Acne and surgical scars

• Skin tone

• The appearance of stretch marks

• Skin texture

• Skin laxity

• Reduce open pores

I have pitted acne scarring; can this be treated?

Yes! We have seen fantastic results using the Bio Pen Q2 for pitted acne scarring which does not respond to skincare or peels. The results achieved will depend on the depth of the scar, so MTPskintech suggest a minimum of 3 treatments, then a review to suggest providing another course, if needed.

Is there anything else I can do to make the treatment more comfortable without the use of anesthetic?

Of course! If clients find the Bio Pen Q2 treatment too uncomfortable, you can switch off the Electroporation and just carry out microneedling, reducing the needle depth if necessary. They will still be able to achieve fantastic results.
